titleOfInvention Process for the composting of shredded, tar oil impregnated old and residual wood
abstract Composting wood impregnated with tar oil comprises mixing the comminuted wood with materials contg. active microorganisms and nutrients, and aerating the mixt. in a closed container or covered heap until the tar oil components have been degraded to the desired extent and the compost has the desired consistency. Pref., the wood is mechanically comminuted to a particle size of 5-20 mm, further comminuted by a thermomechanical process (not described), and mixed with a concd. activated sludge suspension from the coal industry. Additional nutrients and wood-destroying microorganisms may be added. Part of the compost may be recycled to a source of microorganisms for the next batch. USE/ADVANTAGE - The compost is suitable for use in horticulture and agriculture.
