titleOfInvention PROCESS AND DISPOSE OF EXPLOSIVES
abstract The explosive material is biologically decomposed in a two-stage process using selected bacterial populations under specified conditions, whereby in a first anaerobic stage the explosive material is reduced in the presence of easily fermentable substances and in a second, aerobic, stage the resulting intermediate prods. are completely or almost completely eliminated. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process allows explosive agents such as TNT to be destroyed without burning and consequent release of noxious gases into the atmos.. In the first stage TNT is reduced in the presence of easily fermentable substrates such as glucose to form triaminotoluene which due to its nucleophilic properties is labile to oxidative attack and is then susceptible to aerboic microbial attack
