titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR PREPARING RESINS IN NONPENOLIC SOLVENTS
abstract Polyester or polyesterimide resins which are soluble in non-phenolic solvents are prepd. by reacting polycarboxylic acids (or derivs.) with polyols in presence of 20-60 (pref. 30-50) wt.% monoalcohols (b.pt. above 150, pref. above 170 deg. C), with the value of E = equiv. polyol OH/equiv. polycarboxylic acid) = 0.9-1.3, pref. 0.95-1.1 The acid is pref. terephthalic acid, di-Me terephthalate or a diimidodicarboxylic acid with the imide gp. in 5-membered imide ring (pref. an acid prepd. from 2 mols. trimellitic anhydride and (mol. oxy-or methylene-dianiline). The polyol is pref. trishydroxyethyl isocyanurate, opt. admixed with a monoalkylene glycol. The monoalcohol is pref. benzyl alcohol, 2-hydroxyethylbenzene or an alkyleneglycol. USE/ADVANTAGE - Polyester for polyesterimide wire lacquers are obtd. which can be dissolved in solvents other than environmentally-harmful cresol solvents. g
