abstract Coating (I) having heat insulating properties and having its periphery surface cast with metallic material (II) comprises (a) Ti-contg. Al with a mol. ratio of TiO2:Al2O3 = 1.05:1.25; (b) 4-6 wt.% Fe2O3. (b) is added to (a) and then sintered to produce the ceramic lining. Prepn. of (I) comprises: (i) mixing TiO2 with Al2O3 in mol. ratio as in (a); (ii) sintering the mixt. in (i) to adjust the grain size and Ti-contg. Al powder; (iii) adding Fe2O3 powder, in amt. of 4-6 wt.%, to the mixt. of adjusted, Ti-contg. Al, and calcining the mixt. to form the desired ceramic lining. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is used for exhaust outlets of internal combustion engines (claimed). Flaws and cracks in the lining are prevented by casting around the periphery surface of the lining with a metallic material.
