The glass has on its surface firmly adhering layer of (A1) at least one organic polymer (including copolymers) (I) contg. reactive gps. (A2) at least one organophosphate (II) contg. reactive gps., and opt. (A3) lubricant additives (III), or (B1) (II) and, (B2) a further, firmly adhering layer of (I) and opt. (B3) (III) where, on total amt. (all pts. wt.) of layer, (II) comprise(s) 0.5-10% and (I), including (III), comprise(s) 90-99.5%. Prepn. of coated Ca-contg. silicate glass is effected by treating surface with (1a) aq. alkaline medium contg. at least one (I), at least one (II), and opt. (III) at pH 7-12 at 20-200 deg.C then with (2a) aq. alkaline medium of pH 9-12 for 0.1-60 mins. at 20-80 deg.C, or (1b) aq. alkaline soln. of at least one (II) with pH 7-12 at 20-200 deg. C (2b) further treating surface with aq. medium contg. at least one (I) and opt. (III) at 20-200 deg.C then (3b) treating as in (2a). Adhesion promotor for increasing composite strength of Ca-contg. silicate glasses, consists of, on solids content, (C1) 0.5-10% at least one (II) in aq. alkaline medium of pH 7-12 (C2) 90-99.5% at least one (I), and opt. (C3) (III). USE/ADVANTAGE - Used at coating glass containers. Strongly adhering, abrasion- and alkali-resistant coating with low coefft. of friction is obtd., so avoiding lowering of mechanical strength through impact and friction during transporting, use, emptying, and cleani |
