Thermoplastic polycarbonate moulding materials (I) contain 0.01-10 wt.% aluminosilicate (II). The polycarbonate resin (PC) contains more than 0.05 wt.% water. Pref., PC is based on opt. substd. Bisphenol A, etc., (II) is montmorillonite or a zeolite, (III) is e.g. PET, ABS, SAN or polyolefin (up to 50 wt.%), (IV) is e.g. hydrogenated butadiene/styrene copolymer or acrylate graft copolymer rubber, and additives are, e.g. glass fibre, fire retardants, release agents, pigments, etc. The components of (I) are mixed at not above 100 deg.C. USE/ADVANTAGE - (II) is used for the prodn. of water-contg., foamed thermoplastic polycarbonate. The process enables the prodn. of very low-density foam mouldings from PC contg. up to 0.35 wt.% water, with practically no redn. in mol. wt. during processing. The foam prods. have a very light colour, good toughness and an excellent cell structure, and are useful, e.g. as large sheets for advertising applications in vehicle and building construction; the prods. and waste material can be recyc |
