titleOfInvention | METHOD FOR PRODUCING ACETONE DICARBONIC ACID ESTERS BY CARBOXYLATING ACETONE |
abstract | The prepn. of acetone dicarboxylic acid esters (I) comprises carboxylation of acetone with CO2 at 10-30 deg.C and normal pressure in the presence of excess sodium phenolate and in a solvent which is N-methyl-epsilon caprolactam (NMC) or sulpholan. Towards the end of the reaction, water is added at -10 to +20 deg.C and the pptd. crystalline disodium salt of acetone dicarboxylic acid is sepd. together with NaHCO3 and the reaction prod. esterified with MeOH or EtOH without further sepn. of NaHCO3. USE/ADVANTAGE - (II) are intermediates in the organic synthesis of heterocycles and in the pharmaceutical industry. The use of NMC or sulpholan as the solvent, compared to the previously used DMF enables prod. to be pptd. after the addn. of water and filtered off for further reaction. The problems associated with work up of the DMF reaction solns. are thus avoid |
