Disclosed are bicyclic compounds of general formula (I), in which R is: (a) -CH=CR<1>-CH(OH)-CH2R<2>, (b) -CH=CR<1>-CO-CH2R<2>, (c), (d), (e) a cyclohexyl group which may be substituted in any of various positions with an OH and a methyl group and may also have one double bond; an in which R<1> and R<2>, independently of each other, may be hydrogen or an alkyl group with 1 to 3 C-atoms. These compounds have odour characteristics with a complex sandalwood character and high diffusion power and can be mixed in widely varying proportions with each other and with other odoriferous substances to give new scent compositions, generally containing 1 to 70 % by wt. relative to the total composition. These compositions can be used to scent cosmetic preparations and industrial products, as well as in alcohol-based fragrances. |
