titleOfInvention HIGH MOLECULAR HUMIDITY SENSOR AND PRODUCTION THEREOF BY AN ELECTROCHEMICAL METHOD
abstract High mol. moisture sensor has a polypyrrole film doped with dodecylsulphate (DS) anions. The polypyrrole is permeable for Na and K cations, with salt formation, and has a sensitivity for moisture in the 10 power (4) to 10 power (6) ohm region and detection speed between 10s and 5 mins. The sensor is produced by (a) adding an electrolyte soln. with pyrrole monomers to a soln. contg. DS anions during a polymerisation stage; (b) connecting a fine electrode with sensor structure as positive electrode and a Pt plate as negative electrode; (c) passing d.c., so that a doped polypyrrole film is deposited on the positive electrode and subjecting to a redn. stage in an aq. electrolyte contg. small Na and K cations; and (d) applying d.c. with reversed polarity so that the DS anions are retained in the polypyrrole and the Na and K ions permeate, with salt formation, and impart ion conductivity. The polymerisation electrolyte soln. consists of tetrabutylammonium DS (TBDA) in acetonitrile as aprotic solvent; or an aq. soln. of Na DS. The fine electrode is formed by applying alternating W and Ni films on a glass or Al2O3 base plate; structurising using a positive photoresist; plating with Au in the etched areas; and etching away the positive photoresist, Ni and W to form alternating long and short partial electrodes. Each partial electrode is 16 microns wide, with 5 micron wide gaps between the partial electrodes. ADVANTAGE - The sensor has excellent sensitivity and measuring speed.
