abstract The invention relates to the production of bright zinc-plated or zinc-alloy-plated shaped parts by the electrolytic desposition or zinc or a zinc alloy from an acidic aqueous galvanic bath containing as its essential components one or more zinc salts and optionally salts of other alloy metals, one or more conducting salts, one or more surface-active agents and one or more brighteners. Used as brighteners are compounds of the formula (I), in which R<1> is a C1-C8 alkoxy, phenoxy, benzyloxy, amino, C1-C6 alkylamino or di(C1-C6) alkylamino group; R<2> is a C1-C4 alkyl, phenyl or benzyl group or one of the groups given for R<1>; Ar is a phenyl or naphthyl group which may be substituted by one to three C1-C4 alkyl or C1-C4 alkoxy groups.
