titleOfInvention PHASE SEPARATOR FOR SEPARATING TWO-PHASE LIQUID SYSTEM
abstract A phase separator, for sepg. two immiscible liq. phases, consists of a horizontal cavity with an inlet and two outlets. The cavity is fed with liq. by a pump and is formed by upper and lower grooves in different materials with different wetting properties w.r.t. the upper and lower liq. phases so that the phases are separately diverted to upper and lower outlets resulting in phase sepn., the ratio of which is adjusted by a regulating valve fitted to the upper or lower outlet. The phase separator is conducted to a pressure generating component (14) so that a liq. pressure of at least 200 mbar above atmos. pressure can be produced at the opening (24) of the outlet (14) not fitted with the regulating valve (16), by generating a counterpressure in the cavity (12) by suitable adjustment of the regulating valve (16). USE/ADVANTAGE - For sepn. of liq. phases for further analysis after a liq. chromatography or flow injection analysis operation, e.g. for sepn. of an aq. phase contg. dimethoxy-anthracone-sulphonate from an organic elutant phase contg. quat. alkylammonium cpds. after high pressure liq. chromatography. If provides a constant reproducible phase sepn. ratio, the two phases being simultaneously sepd. in a pure form.
