titleOfInvention | Translucent roof element |
abstract | A translucent roofing member has a transparent outermost sheet, a transparent inner sheet parallel to and 10-30 mm from the outer sheet, and an intermediate translucent layer of spun glass and/or glass mat. Pref. materials are (a) a double-skin polycarbonate sheet for the outer and inner layers (b) a glass mat impregnated with water glass or with a GRP sheet for the intermediate layer. The example shown has (a) double-skin polycarbonate sheet outermost layer (2) 10 mm thick, a core (4) of 220 g/m2 20 mm thick slightly compressed glass yarn, a 25 g/m2 layer of glass mat (6) impregnated with soda water glass, and an inner sheet (8) of double-skin polycarbonate sheet. The figure shows the gutter area where the lower end of the member fits into a holder (12) on a metal sheet (16) on a wooden section (10). The underside of the member has one neoprene seal (14) and another (18) over the bar (20). The construction lends itself to a number of variations. They can be walked on. The fibres in the centre layer run at right angles to the webs of the skins. ADVANTAGE - Prod. meets the appropriate fire specifications. It has good thermal insulation. |
