titleOfInvention METHOD FOR THE HYDROTHERMAL PRODUCTION OF CRYSTALLINE SODIUM DISILICATE
abstract Hydrothermal prodn. of crystalline sodium disilicate (Na20: SiO2 mol ration = 1:2) is carried out at elevated temp. and antagenous pressure in a pressure vessel by (a) heating quartz sand and caustic soda and/or an aq. soln. of amorphous sodium disilicate to at least 235 deg.C; and either (b) subjecting the reaction mixt. of 50-75 wt.% total solids concn. to opt. concn. and, during or immediately after cooling to 90-130 deg.C, re-addn. of (part of) the removed water amount, and then removing the crystalline sodium disilicate ppte. from the suspension; or (b') subjecting the reaction mixt. of over 75wt.% total solids concn. to opt. concn. to up to 100 wt.% total solids concn. and then cooling to obtain pptd. crystalline sodium disilicate as a solid. ADVANTAGE - The process allows single stage direct prodn. of fully crystalline, high purity sodium disilicate in the beta (low-temp) form, the purity being over 90% when step (b) is used and over 95% when step (b') is used.
