titleOfInvention PROCEDURE FOR THE GROSS TAXONOMIC DIFFERENTIATION OF MICRO-ORGANISMS
abstract A procedure for rough taxonomic differentiation of microorganisms by means of fluorescence analysis, whereby the microorganism is irradiated with a first wavelength while under the microscope in a known step, the fluorescent portion recorded and in further stages by selected use of different wavelengths a pigment analysis is carried out by means of the fluorescence behaviour. USE/ADVANTAGE - The procedure is relatively cheap and simple to carry out and does not require expert knowledge or the use of an electron microscope. The method allows certain differentiation between autotropic microorganisms and heterotropic microorganisms and also allows reliable rough taxonomic assignment of the individual microorganisms. The method is useful e.g. for quantitative determn. of aquatic microorganisms in water samples.
