abstract Described is a ligand/carrier-protein conjugate in which the ligand is not a protein or a polypeptide and is linked to the protein by a bifunctional spacer unit. The conjugate is characterized in that the ligand has at least one amino group, the protein has at least one sulphydryl (SH) group, and the bifunctional spacer links the ligand to the protein by means of the former's amino group and the latter's SH group. This ligand/carrier-protein conjugate is suitable for use in the preparation of diagnostic agents.
