abstract | Novel biladienes of formula (I) are claimed, as is also their use in the prodn. of the known vinylogous porphyrin derivs. of formula (II). In the formulae, R1 and R2 = H, opt substd. 1-20C alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl or opt. substd. phenyl or 2 neighbouring R1 combined with the C atoms to which they are bonded to form a unsatd. or aromatic 5-7 membered carbocyclic ring; X = H or 1-4C alkyl; m and n = 0 or 1; p = 1 or 2; and An = an anion. USE/ADVANTAGE - Unlike the prior-art biladienes of Ann. Chem., 1975, 1637-58, the novel (I) are suitable for use in the prodn. of the porphyrins (II) whihc are already known from US4798891. |
