titleOfInvention | METHOD FOR PRODUCING ETHYLENE (CO) POLYMERS |
abstract | A process is claimed for the prodn. of polymers with uniform coarse particles and high bulk density (I), by polymerisation of ethylene (E), opt. with up to 10 wt.% 1-olefin of formula R9CH=CH2 (with R9 = 1-12C alkyl), in suspension, soln. or gas phase, at 20-120 deg C and 2-60 bar in the presence of a catalyst (II); (II) consists of (a) the reaction prod. of (a1) a Cl-contg. Ti-(III) cpd. with (a2) a Mg alkoxide of formula Mg(OR1)(OR2) which is dissolved in inert solvent, (a3) a transition metal cpd. of formula MXm(OR3)4-m and (a4) an Al cpd. of formula Al(R4)q(OR5)pX3-q-p, and (b) an Al(1-6C alkyl)3 or a reaction prod. of Al(alkyl)3 or (alkyl)2AlH with isoprene; R1 = R2 = -CH2CHR6R7 or -(CH2)nOR8 (wth R6 = H or 1-6C alkyl, R7 = 2-6C alkyl,R8 = 1-4C alkyl and n = 2-6), or R1 = as above and R2 = 1-20C alkyl; M = Ti, Zr, or Hf; R3 = 1-9C alkyl; m = 0-4; R4, R5 = 1-6C alkyl; X = halo; q = 0-3; p = 0-1; ratio Mg:Ti:M:Al in (a) = 1:(0.05-2):(0.05-2):(0.3-4); (a1) is reacted with (a2-a4) simultaneously, or with (a2) and (a3) together and then with (a4). (a1) is reacted simultaneously with (a2)-(a4), and above ratio Mg:Ti:M:Al = 1:(0.05-1):(0.05-1):(0.3-2); (a1) is TiCl3. Pref., (a2) is, e.g., Mg bis-(2-methyl-1-pentyloxide) (III), Mg bis-(2-methyl-1-hexyloxide), etc., (a3) is TiCl4, ZrCl4, Ti(OEt)4, etc., (a4) is Et2AlCl, Et3Al2Cl3 or EtAlCl2, inert solvent is hexane or petroleum ether (b.pt. 140-170 deg C) (IV), and (b) is Et3Al or Al-isoprenyl. USE/ADVANTAGE - The invention provides a highly active catalyst (II) for the prodn. of (E)-(co)polymers with high bulk density, narrow mol. wt. distribution, low fines content and large, uniform particle dia..
