titleOfInvention SPECTRAL SELECTIVE GLAZING
abstract Visually transparent glazing for tempering laser light has a spectrally selective coating that reflects laser radiation. Pref,. the substrate material is a polymer or copolymer, esp. PMMA and the laser-reflective coating is of a visually transparent IR reflective semiconductor, esp. indium oxide, tin oxide, zinc oxide or a mixt. of these, partic. indium tin oxide (ITO). The adhesion of the ITO layer can be improved e.g. by vapour deposition of an intermediate silicon oxide layer ca. 10 nm thick on the PMMA. A silicon oxide protective layer ca. 100 nm thick may also be formed on the ITO layer as anti-reflective layer which limits reflection in the visual range to below 5 %. USE/ADVANTAGE - The glazing protects against IR lasers and reflects at least 80% in the range 3 micron to 20 micron. The glazing is esp. useful in helicopter cabins, aircraft cockpits, and visors and spectacles for industrial and military use.
