abstract In the prodn. of 3-alkoxycarbonylcyclohexanepropionate esters (I) by reacting 4-vinylcyclohex-1-ene (II) with CO and an alcohol (III), the reaction is carried out at 130-180 deg.C and 150-350 bar in the presence of a Co cpd. (IV) and a tert. amine (V). (IV) is a Co salt, oxide and/or complex; (V) pyridine or pyridines without ortho-substits., esp. 4-picoline (VA); and (III) is a 1-6C alcohol. Reaction is carried out at 130-140 deg.C in the 1st stage and 140-180 deg.C in the 2nd and at a pressure of 200-300 bar. (IV) is used in an amt. of 0.5-5 mole-% w.r.t. (II), whilst the (V):(IV) molar ratio is 2:1 to 15:1. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are valuable intermediates for the prodn. of alkyd resins, polyamides, polyesters or lubricants. High (I) yields (usually over 70 wt.%) are obtd. with an economical base metal cpd., rather than the usual noble metal catalysts.
