titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR OBTAINING WATER-FREE ESTERSULFONATES |
abstract | Ester sulphonates with low water content are obtd. from aq. solns. or (semi)solid aq. pastes by contacting the water-contg. ester sulphonate with a hydrophilic, water-miscible solvent, (partly) taking up the water in the solvent, and sepg. the water/solvent mixt. from the ester sulphonate. The ester sulphonate is derived from 8-22C (16-18C) (un)branched fatty acids, and is partic. a methyl ester sulphonate, esp. as Na salt. The solvent is a ketone, esp. MEK, used in ratio by vol. of aq. ester sulphonate:solvent of 1:2-10 (1:5-7). The low-water ester sulphonates are sepd. from the suspension by filtration and are dried at 30-70 deg.C and 50-1000 mbars. USE/ADVANTAGE - Salts of alpha-sulpho fatty acid esters are anionic tensides, e.g. for washing powders. The distribution of chain length of the fatty acid gp. in the low-water ester sulphonates obtd. is shifted in the direction of the longer-chain portion, improving the washing activity. 95-100% of the amt. of ester sulphonate can be obtd. in powder form, and the prods. can be used directly as powdery tenside components. |
