In the process proposed, the crude reaction products of the alkyl glycoside synthesis are bleached by kneading an oxidation agent into the material, from which most of the excess fatty alcohol has been removed and which contains only a limited amount of water, at a high enough temperature to ensure the workability of the reaction mixture. A suitable temperature range is that from about 50 to 150 DEG C, in particular from about 80 to 100 DEG C, and aqueous hydrogen peroxide is suitable for use as the oxidation agent. If necessary, an alkaline compound such as 50 % sodium hydroxide solution is added to ensure that bleaching takes place under basic conditions. The bleached product is produced as a solid. The product is preferably mixed with the usual ingredients of washing and cleaning agents, to give a solid, preferably pourable alkyl glycoside preparation. |
