abstract | Biomass and the state of the metabolism of microorganism are determined quantitatively esp. as applied to the fermentation of bacteria, yeast and other cells. Light of two wavelengths is passed separately on the sample over the part of the light path for the reflection and fluorescence light. The light from the sample is subject to a separate wavelength selection and is passed to the photosensitive section. Reflection and fluorescence light from the microorganisms is measured simultaneously over long periods. The biomass is found from the reflection data by a comparison with measurements under standard conditions. A comparison of the fluorescence data and the biomass with the measured values under standard conditions determines the chromofluoro content. The state of metabolism is found in the same way. ADVANTAGE - Facilitates an automation of the fermentation of microorganisms. |
