abstract | New polycyclic aromatic condensates are claimed, which are prepd. by oxidative polycondensation of aromatic cpds. contg. pairs of unsubstd. vicinal positions, using oxidants with an oxidn. potential of at least 0.7 V. Pref. monomers are diphenyls (I), e.g. bis(2-oxo-indolin -3,3-diyl)-(-poly) thiophenes or -pyrroles (II), bis(3-oxo- or -thio-indolin-2-yl) cpds. (III), metal phthalaldehyde chelates (IV) or benzene cpds. (V) of the formulae (I)-(V): X1 = -O-, -S-, -CO-, -NH-, -SO2-O-, -O-CH2-CH2-O-, -CO-CH=CH-CO or -CO-CH=CH-CO-CH=CH-CO; X2 = -S- or -NH-; X3 = -O- or -S-; R1 = H or, if X1 = -O-CH2-CH2-O-, R1 = MeO; R2 and R3 = H, 1-12C alkyl, 5-6C cycloalkyl, SO3H, MeO, CHO, COOH or CH3CO: M = Fe, Co, Ni, Pt, Zn, Mg or Ti; n = 1, 2 or 3 if X2 = S; or n = 1 if X2 = -NH-. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used as electroconductive material and as filaments, films and electronic devices. Also useful as sensors, electrodes and photovoltaic cells. They have polycyclic annellated ring systems with planar structure and a deg. of polymerisation of 3-500, pref. 3-100. |
