abstract Hydrogel foams (I) based on gelatin and water contg.: (a) opt. polyvinyl alcohol; (b) crosslinking agent selected from: (ba) at least trivalent metals or metalloids e.g. boric acid, borates, aluminium salts, titanates, alkyltitanates; and/or (bc) organic and/or inorganic acids and/or their salts e.g. gallic acid, gallates, phosphoric acid, phosphates, dihydroxy benzoic acid, dihydroxybenzoates; (c) opt. organic plasticisers and/or auxiliary agents and/or additives. Also claimed are: (i) prepn. of (I) by mixing gelatin, or a mixt. of gelatin and polyvinylalcohol, with water and opt. a plasticiser, adding a crosslinking agent, energetically stirring the resulting reaction mixture under a flow of gas, and spreading the foam produced opt. in laminar structures or laminar supports; (ii) laminar structures prepd. from (I); (iii) laminar supports prepd. from (I).
