Method comprises coating with at least one monofunctional polymer (I) contg. one or more hydrophilic chains. One end of each chain bonds chemically to the substrate, while the other is at least partially free to move. (I) is e.g. a polymer of formula R1-((X-R3-)k(X-R4-)2)m- R-((R5-X3-)o-(R6-X4-)p)-R2, where R1 and R2 are alkyl, carboxyl, sulphonic acid, sulphonamide, NO2 or quat. ammonium gps., R3-R6 are 1-6C alkyl, (alk)aryl or aralkyl, X is O or S, k and p are 1-400 and n and m are 5-300. USE/ADVANTAGE - In membranes for ultra- and microfiltration, dialysis, osmosis or reverse osmosis of biological fluids and blood. (I) may also be used in enzyme electrodes. Membranes coated with (I) are less likely to become blocked with adsorbed protein. |
