Modified highly dispersed inorganic xerogels, esp. on a silicate basis, are prepd. by (a) adding to a gel-forming sol. 0.01-0.3 mols of a functionalised alkoxy cpd., w.r.t. the metal oxide in the sol (adding the alkoxy cpd. as 10-90% alkoxysilane/solvent mixt.), (b) stirring the mixt. for 3 hrs. to give a modified gel, (c) drying the modified gel at 60-100 deg.C for 50 hrs., and (d) drying the modified xerogel at 120-250 deg.C for 20 hrs. USE/ADVANTAGE - The xerogel is a chromatography gel or a catalyst support. It can be incorporated in synthetics, e.g. lacquers, paints and adhesives, and confers better properties on the inorganically-filled polymer. The process is simple. (3pp Dwg.No.0/0) |
