titleOfInvention RADIATABLE COATING MATERIALS
abstract A radiation-cured coating material without reactive diluents is claimed (I); (I) is a reaction prod. of (meth)acrylic acid, (meth)acryloyl chloride or isocyanato-alkyl (meth)acrylate with a polycaprolactone-triol (II) or with an adduct of (II) and a low-mol. wt. diepoxide (III); (III) is an aromatic diglycidyl ether or an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diepoxide with mean mol. wt. not above 400, and (II) has mol.wt. below 1000. (III) is a diglycidyl ether of Bisphenol A, butanediol or hexanediol, or 1,2,7,8-diepoxyoctane or 3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3', 4'-epoxycyclohexanecarboxylate; (II) has two terminal prim. OH gps. and one sec. hydroxyalkyl gp.; the OH gps. of (II) or the adduct thereof are pref. partly or fully reacted with the above (meth)acrylic acid derivs. USE/ADVANTAGE - The invention provides liq. coating materials with viscosity 5-60 Pa.s and high sensitivity towards electron beam radiation, due to the relatively large no. or reactive centres; reactive diluents (e.g. polyfunctional (meth)acrylates, which are volatile, toxic skin irritants are not required. (I) are cured with an electron beam (dose = 120 kGy; accelerating voltage = 165 kV) to give hard, tough coatings, soft flexible coatings, high-grade dielectric insulation, etc.
