titleOfInvention | MIXED SUBSTITUTED POLYAROMATS |
abstract | Polyaromatics (I) are prepd. by reacting (A) aromatic dihalo cpds. (halo = Cl, Br or I), opt. substd. except by acid substits. and nitro gps., with (B) metallic Zn, Mn, or Mg at 0-250 deg.C. in presence of (C) catalyst system comprising (C1) 0.1-25 mol.%, on (A), salt, complex salt, or complex of Ni, (C2) 2-100 mol. triaryl phosphine per mol. Ni in (C1), and opt. (C3) 0.1-10 mol. alkali, alkaline earth, Zn, Mg, or Mn halide, phosphate, or sulphate (as promoter) per mol. Ni in (C1). Opt., anhydrous aprotic solvent is also present. USE/ADVANTAGE - High-temp.-stable fibres, films and coatings, modifiers for plastics, liq. crystal materials, precursors for other polymers. Compared with polyarylenes having only one type of substit., (I) have processing advantages, e.g., better solubility or lower softening point. |
