titleOfInvention | METHOD FOR SEPARATING RADIOACTIVE MINERALS FROM MATERIALS OF VEGETABLE OR ANIMAL ORIGIN |
abstract | Radioactive minerals are sepd. from plant or animal materials by extn. with an extractant contg. 40-100 wt. % of a carboxylic acid and/or deriv. and 60-0% of water, giving an extract enriched in radioactive minerals and a residue impoverished in radioactive materials, followed by sepn. of extract and residue, and opt. freeing from extractant, drying and/or processing further. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process can be applied to dried milk or milk prods., esp. dried whey and whey prods., dried permeate from ultrafiltration of milk, or whey, or the mother liquor from lactose crystallisation (claimed). Dried fruit pulp, fruit juice powder, dried starch solns. or sugar solns. can also be treated (claimed.) The process is simple, saves energy, and needs little water. Treatment may be in a closed system, with recycling of the extractant, thus reducing pollution of the environment and the waste water. |
