abstract | Analytical device for measuring ions in a hydrophilic, layered carrier matrix in which are dispersed fine beads of hydrophobic carrier contg (1) an ionophor (I) with 2 or more crown ether residues in the moleculee and (2) an indicator (II) which interacts with the (I)-ion complex to give a detectable response. (I) pref contain 2-4 crown ethers, each with 3-10 membered rings opt contg, in addn to 0, an N or S atom. (II) are quinone-derivs with N-hydroxyaryl substit. USE/ADVANTAGE - These devices are esp used for clinical assay of Na or K ions in biological fluid (whole blood, serum plasma, urine, etc). They provide colourimetric quantifications with better accuracy than known devices (which contain (I) contg only a single crown ether residue). |
