titleOfInvention METHOD FOR ISOLATING L-2-AMINO-4-METHYLPHOSPHINOBUTTERIC ACID AMMONIUM SALT FROM AN ENZYMATIC TRANSAMINATION SOLUTION
abstract L-2-Amino-4-methylphosphinobutyrin acid (L-PTC) (I) is recovered from the reaction soln. obtd. in enzymatic transamination of 4-(hydrody)(methyl) phosphinyl-2-oxobutyric acid (III), and contg. (I), alpha-keto-glutaric acid (II), residues of (III) and L-glutamic acid (IV), by (a) concentrating the soln., (b) acidifying to pH 4.7-3.2 (4.2-3.7) with H2SO4, (c) sepg. the pptd. (IV), (d) acidifying to pH 2-1 with H2SO4, and extracting (II) and (III), (e) concentrating the aq. phase, bringing to pH 5-7 with NH3, with pptn. of (NH4)2SO4, and (f) recovering (I) from the filtrate by further concn. USE/ADVANTAGE - DL-PTC is a herbicide; (I) is the active form, whilst D-PTC is inactive. (I) is obtd. in high yield (94%).
