abstract | Polymerisation of butadienes alone or combined with the catalysed polymerisation of ethylene is claimed using a Ni catalyst and an Al cocatalyst (opt. with addn. of HF, BF3, or complexes thereof), the Ni catalyst is a phosphorus yield Ni cpd. (I). (I) is produced by reaction of a Ni(O) cpd. (or a cpd. which canbe converted thereto in situ) (II)with cpds. of formula R1R2R3P=(X)n(III) and R4R5R6P=C(R8)-C(R7)=O (IV) or with an adduct or a mixt. of a quinoid cpd. or maleic anhydride and a phosphine of formula R4R5R6P (V) and a cpd. of formula (III) (with R1, R2, R3 = opt. branched 1-20C alk(ox)amino R4-R8 = as for R1-R3 except dialkylamino, but R7 can also = H and R8 can also = H, acyl or sulphonate. ADVANTAGE - The process enables the polymerisation of butadienes to give prods. with a high cis-1,4-content, the catalyst system is suitable for both the ethylene polymerisation and the butadiene polymerisation, with the mol. wt. of the mono-olefin sequences controlled by the yield ligands and the mol. wt. of the butadiene sequences controlled more by the type of Al cocatalysts and F-contg. additives. |
