In process for the removal of m-chlorotoluene from chlorotoluene mixts. contg. up to 10 wt.% m-chlorotoluene (based on the total chlorotoluene content), a substantially toluene-free chlorotoluene mixt. is chlorinated in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst and opt. of a co-catalyst at between 0 deg.C and the b.pt. of the reaction mixt., until the m-chlorotoluene content of the mixt. has fallen to less than 1.0 wt.%. |
