abstract An antifreeze composition is disclosed for use in the cooling systems of internal combustion engines made of aluminium. The composition comprises from 0.005 to 5% silicate, from 0.07 to 0.35% nitrate, from 0.2 to 2.0% phosphate, from 0.5 to 4.0% benzoate, from 0.1 to 1.0% molybdate, from 0.02 to 0.3% vanadate, from 0.05 to 0.3% triazole and from 100 to 5000 ppm of an organosilane stabiliser for the silicate. The composition does not contain organic amines and borates. The pH of the composition is in the range from about 7 to about 9.
