The present device for the recombination of hydrogen and oxygen, separated in maintenance-free lead-acid batteries (accumulators) and for the purpose of their electrochemical reaction, consists of electrodes which are enclosed, like a package, by a microporous separator and are separated from one another by the same separator. The device can be used in gas-tight accumulators. It is connected, via a diode, to the negative terminal of the battery or is divided into two parts, the one part being connected, via a diode, to the negative terminal and the other part being connected, via diode and resistor, to the positive terminal. The device is partially submerged in the electrolyte above the plates of the accumulator cell. The electrodes of the device consist of a mixture of catalyst (tungsten carbide) and polymer binder, which is pressed on a support grid of lead or lead alloy. <IMAGE> |
