abstract A hollow cylindrical rotary drive shaft (3) that is available as a propeller shaft in a vehicle or the like. The drive shaft (3) has solid portions (4) at the opposite ends of a hollow portion (5), and it can be supported at the solid portions. The hollow portion (5) has a sole primary bending characteristic angular frequency of 500Hz or higher and a ratio (t/D) of a wall thickness (t) to an outer diameter (D) of 0.06 or less. A vibration suppressor (6, 8) made of elastic material is pressure- inserted (6) into this hollow portion, or it is tightly fitted around (8) an outer circumference of the hollow portion. By presetting a sole primary bending characteristic angular frequency of the hollow portion large, primary bending resonance of the drive shaft can be effectively absorbed by the vibration-suppressor in a region where a frequency is high and a vibration energy level is high. <IMAGE>
