titleOfInvention FIBER GYRO
abstract The fibre-optic gyroscope, of the Sagnac type, has a monomode optical fibre coil and a 3.3 coupler, one input of the 3.3 coupler being optically connected to a radiation source outputting substantially unpolarised light and two first outputs of the 3.3 coupler being optically connected to the monomode optical fibre coil and two second outputs each being optically connected to a radiation detector. In order to reduce offset and drift phenomena due to environmental influences, this fibre-optic gyroscope is operated either with one edge-emitting light-emitting diode (ELED), a multi-mode laser diode (MML) with fibre-optic depolariser (DEP), or a superfluorescent monomode optical fibre (SFF) with a semiconductor pumping light source (PL). <IMAGE>
