abstract In a method and a plant for the production of cotton swabs from a cotton band which comprises layers of meltable fibres at least in its surface and from which cotton swabs are punched out, the cotton band is selectively heated and cooled over parts or all the areas within the peripheries of the cotton swabs for melting the fibres that are meltable at least in their surface for connection to adjacent fibres. Those parts of the cotton band which lie outside the sections treated by heating remain in their untreated state, so that they can easily be processed again. The cooling device has an expediently matching outline. <IMAGE>
