abstract Steam and UF6 are reacted e.g. in a fluid bed at 200-700 deg.C to form solid UO2F2 and/or uranium oxide with O:U atomic ratio 2.7-3:1. The prod. obtd. is dissolved in H2O or HNO3 to form an aq. uranyl soln. contg. UO2F2 and/or UO2(NO3)2. This soln. is reacted with NH3 to ppte. ammonium diuranate (ADU). The ppte. is filtered off, dried, calcined and reduced to obtain UO2 powder prod.
