N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) to radical copolymerisation in physiological saline soln. (PSS) in the presence of 1-3 pts. wt. polyvinyl alcohol (PVA); (b) washing the resulting gel and swelling it in PSS; and (c) impregnating the gel with nutrients.
