POROESE POLYMER BEADS FOR DELIVERING ACTIVE SUBSTANCES. |
abstract |
A compsn. for delivering an active ingredient (I) by controlled time release comprises a porous polymeric bead having a network of pores, the (I) being held within the network of pores, the network of pores being substantially non-collapsible upon removal of the (I). Pref. the bead is copolymerised from a comonomer pair chosen from vinyl stearate/divinyl benzene, methyl methacrylate/ethylene glycol dimethylmethacrylate or styrene/divinyl benzene. The (I) is pref. a porogen such as a mineral oil and the (I) pref. makes up 5-60% of the total wt. of the compsn. The delivery vehicle pref. has a dia. of 10-100 microns and a calculated cross linking density in excess of ca. 10%. |
