abstract | The invention relates to a process for the preparation of aqueous dispersions intended for further processing to produce electrodeposition coating materials having stoving temperatures below 165@C and stoving times </= 30 min, which dispersions contain modified epoxy-amine adducts as binders, and substances which carry activated ester groups as crosslinking agents. In this process polyepoxides and compounds containing one or more, preferably 2, hydroxyl groups per molecule are reacted with catalysis at elevated temperatures to give epoxy-containing intermediates. A solvent or solvent mixture is then added, with external cooling, and the solution is brought to reflux, by application of a vacuum if appropriate, until the temperature has fallen to from 95@C to 20@C. Amines are added onto the free epoxide groups which are still present in the epoxy resin, and either a dispersion is prepared by admixing a water/acid mixture, after adding the crosslinking agent, or dispersion is carried out first and then the crosslinking agent is added. |
