titleOfInvention FILTER OR CATALYST ELEMENT AND METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF
abstract Catalyst element, comprising a body which serves as support for the catalytically active material and is made of ceramic material, which may be foamed, characterised in that the catalytically active material is firmly incorporated into the ceramic body by sintering. The ceramic body can be composed of catalytically active material in the mass, but catalytically active material can also be sintered onto a ceramic material support as a surface coating. The catalyst element can further contain, in fine distribution, metallic electrical resistance material suitable for use as a heating element, and be furnished with connections for making a connection to an external voltage source. The production is carried out in such a way that the catalytically active material and the ceramic matrix material are ground individually or in a mixture and are dispersed to form a homogeneous slurry, whereupon the slurry is applied as a coating material to the pore surfaces of a polyurethane foam body corresponding to the shape of the desired catalyst and the polyurethane foam body, after drying, is stripped off by heat treatment with sintering of the ceramic material. The coating and drying processes can each be repeated several times - in the case of separate application, in any desired selection.
