titleOfInvention UNDERGROUND STORAGE CONTAINER FOR DANGEROUS SUBSTANCES
abstract Substances which are a fire hazard, in particular those which release hazardous combustion decomposition products, can be safely stored and handled in subterranean mines and tunnels if the storage vessel comprises a service vessel and an auxiliary vessel. In this case, the service vessel is expediently furnished with an insulation which is selected and dimensioned in such a way that a temperature in a hazardous range cannot occur in the interior of the service vessel. The auxiliary vessel is arranged and connected to the service vessel in such a way that in the event of fire, the product provided in the auxiliary vessel, especially water, automatically overflows into the service vessel, in order to produce here a reaction or partial reaction which prevents the formation of harmful combustion decomposition products. Partial reaction is taken to mean in this context that sufficient, for example, isocyanate is reacted so that the resulting CO2 effectively displaces gases which are a fire-hazard in the free region of the service vessel. In addition, it is possible to use reaction gas instead of the water, which reaction gas is likewise introduced at the appropriate temperature into the service vessel in order to avoid here the formation of harmful combustion decomposition products. In the reaction of isocyanate and water, CO2 is released which, in the appropriate amount, can escape from the service vessel so that it further checks the fire. <IMAGE>
