Process for the production of a toothed belt |
abstract |
A belt is formed by placing tensile members around a grooved drum, applying tooth forming polymer with reinforcing fibres around the tensile unit, then applying heat and pressure so that the polymer is forced towards the drum and exudes through the unit and into the grooves to form the teeth. The polymer and drum are immediately cooled so that the polymer is generally non-cured. Backing layer forming second polymer is then applied about the tensile unit and heat and pressure are again applied to complete belt formation and curing the two polymers together. A sheet of heat-shrinkable nylon or polyolefin, non-shrinkable plastics or metal foil is pref. placed around the first polymer before it is exposed to heat and pressure. |
