abstract The invention relates to a method and a device for generating an image (an image formation) on an image pick-up on the basis of recorded data, by using as a basis a reference signal which is adjusted in such a manner that the area in which pixels of the colour data are superimposed on one another in accordance with the colour components, is adjusted to be smaller on the basis of the colour components. At the positions at which, by means of the pixel signals, certain colour components are deposited at a level which is different from the predetermined level and where the dye is deposited, due to the pixel signals of other colour components, of a level different from the predetermined level, the reference signal is formed or generated in accordance with the group of density values which are set or predetermined in such a manner that the number of positions of mutual superimposition becomes smaller.
