Synthetic vascular grafts comprise a tubular, flexible, porous substrate coated, at least on the inside, with a crosslinked coating comprising at least three layers of collagen fibres mixed with sufficient plasticiser to make the graft flexible and impermeable to blood.The substrate is a polyethylene terephthalate hose (see US3805301 or 4047252) and is coated with at least 5 layers of an aq. paste contg.0.5-5 (esp. 1.5-4) wt.% collagen fibres and 4-12 (esp. 6-10) wt.% plasticiser, esp. sorbitol or glycerol. The layers are dried between applications and finally crosslinked with HCHO vapour |
