abstract | In a process for the denitration of polluted exhaust gases of an Otto engine with the aid of a catalyst of activated charcoal, a packing, free from impregnations, of oven coke made from brown coal is used, through which the exhaust gas is passed at temperatures between 120 and 300 DEG C for about 1 second. An apparatus for carrying out the process has an essentially closed vessel (8, 12) for the packing (10), the extension of which is dimensioned independently of the mounted position of the vessel in the exhaust gas system (3 to 7) in such a way that the exhaust gas (11) requires a time period between 0 and 1 second for flowing through it. A vessel (12) in a horizontal mounted position is composed of three tubes (13, 14, 17) arranged concentrically to each other having passageways (19 and 21) for the exhaust gas (11) between the inner tubes (13, 14). <IMAGE> |
