abstract The invention relates to novel 2,4-disubstituted phenyl tetrahydrofurfuryl ethers of the general formula I <IMAGE> with the proviso (1) that both X and Y denote nitro groups, in which case the compound has the formula II <IMAGE> or with the proviso (2) that X is an NR1R2 group and Y denotes a nitro group, in which case the compounds have the general formula IV <IMAGE> the proviso or with (3) that X denotes a nitro group and Y denotes an NR3R4 group, in which case the compounds have the general formula VI <IMAGE> and in which R1 and R2, or R3 and R4, respectively, independently of one another in each case denote a hydrogen atom, a (C1-C4)alkyl group, a hydroxy(C2-C4)alkyl group, a dihydroxy(C3-C4)alkyl group, a halo(C2-C4)alkyl group, an amino(C2-C4)alkyl group or an amino(C2-C4)alkyl group which is mono- or disubstituted on the nitrogen by methyl, ethyl or hydroxyethyl radicals, the carbon chain being straight-chain or branched, to processes for their preparation according to Claims 4 to 6, and to their use for the preparation of coupling components for colourants and, in particular, for the preparation of 2,4-diaminophenyltetrahydrofurfuryl ether derivatives of the general formula VIII ...
