abstract A process is described for the preparation of dry vinyl chloride polymers in which the polymerisation is carried out in aqueous suspension with addition of a water-soluble alkaline compound when the vinyl chloride conversion has reached from 10 to 70 % by weight, based on the vinyl chloride employed. After the residual monomers have been removed, the majority of the water has been decanted off and after conventional brief drying in an air-lift dryer, subsequent drying is carried out in a warmed stream of gas at from 35 to 90 DEG C for from 5 to 45 minutes. The extended subsequent drying lasting from 1 to 3 hours which is otherwise conventional is thus unnecessary.
